Armageddon Update VII

Phew what a week! In the grip of a heatwave the painting suffered. The heat hit us hard and paint was drying on the wet pallet as fast as we could wet it. We battled through and progress was made. We had hoped to finish the box this week but alas no. Never mind, maybe we can celebrate next week.

The ancient pushed the wife’s skills to the limit but she rose to challenge wonderfully.

The Bannernob pushed my patience to the limit. When I began it looked like an open enough pose but, my oh my, there were so many hard-to-reach nooks and crannies. Then again perhaps the heat was just getting to me.

Oh the end must be in sight, here come the big boys. Again the wife, who has pinched all the Space Marines you’ll notice, did a grand job. Thank you darling!

More nooks and crannies. If I had any hair I’d have pulled it all out by now.

So there is a Bigboss, Big Mek DakkaRig and a Landspeeder still to go. Let’s do  it!

Armageddon Update VI

Well, it seems like it has been a quiet week this week, and I suppose it was. I always find in really annoying when real life just insists on butting in. However we are also nearing the end and, after this week, we only have characters and vehicles left!! The Eradicator Squad were finished and the Weird Boy and Pain Boy, plus grot, were done for the orks.

The squad by the wife.

He was a lot of fun to paint.

I really would not like to be left to their tender mercies.

I can feel Veteran and Banner Boy coming on… ooo eer!

Ride of the Orkyries

I just can’t help myself. I am of an age where, I see the Ork Deff Copter Squadron and I hear the Ride of the Valkyries playing in my head*! These are such brilliant little models. The are so dynamic, so nicely proportioned and so blooming Orky. Again, they were brilliant candidates for the Mediocre Hobbies (over on YouTube, check them out) rust treatment. It worked a charm, at least I think so. They were a breeze and a delight to paint. And you get six of them!

Obviously they came as part of the New Ork Battalion Set, which includes a Rukkatrukk Squigbuggy and a Deffkilla Wartrike. Again these two models just scream; ORKY! They are fantastic. Painted rusty and red and Bob is your uncle, if he is a very nice uncle he’ll buy this set for you. At the time of going to press it was still available, but only while stocks last.

Just as a word of warning though, the rotor blades, on the Deff Copters, are a bit on the flimsy side. Be wary of over eager dry bushing. I managed to snap one off and it required some serious pinning to get it back on again. I saw that someone had the clever idea of magnetising them. I wish I had the patience for that; it seems like a very cunning solution for storing the darn things too.
The set was a lovely Birthday present, it helped to flesh out my burgeoning Ork army and fill some more time while waiting for Armageddon to release.

Armageddon

I had made it to the site on time. It seemed pretty busy, but I was there. I went to buy it but they had all gone. How? How could that be? My heart sank and bitter disappointment set in. I woke up still feeling very sad but, heaving a huge sigh of relief, I realised it was all a bad dream, Armageddon day was still weeks away. I know you will laugh at this foolish old orc. Surely I am old enough to know better. How deep is my love? I wanted that box set so much.

Fortunately there was my birthday coming up and my very generous family made sure I had lots to keep me busy; Armageddon: The Return Of Yarrick. Wazdakka Gutsmek, the new Ork Battalion, a Big Mek with Shock Attack Gun and even Old Bale Eye himself, Commissar Yarrick. I was full of determination to get it all done before Armageddon Day! Watch this space to see if I made that deadline???

In the meantime pre order day arrived. Despite my nightmares I had no problem getting the box ordered, Games Workshop got it more than right this time, and it duly arrived. A rather stunned UPS driver dropped it at my door. “I’ve got about a dozen of these!”  he remarked. Now I do not live in a huge metropolis so a dozen boxes is quite a big deal. As I took it in my eager arms, hugging it to my bosom, it felt delightfully heavy.

It is here and, braving the heatwave, I have it assembled and undercoated. Let’s Go!

Waaaagh!

Spearhead

It is all the wife’s fault. She has switched her allegiance to Cities of Sigmar and so dumped the box full of new Stormcast firmly in my lap.  Nobody styling themselves the, “Grumpy Old Orc” could possibly prioritise the completion of a Stormcast Spearhead over that of the Oruks, or even Gloomspite Gitz. Alas, though, cruel fate decreed it so. I must also point out that the Kruleboyz are only a Beastskewer Killbow away from completion. Here it is then, my first Spearhead:

The Vigilant Brotherhood

I decided to step away from our usual Hammers Of Sigmar look and went for the Hallowed Knights as featured in the box artwork.

I hate to have to admit it, but I did enjoy painting this scheme. There was something very satisfying about all those fiddly details. Getting them Battle Ready was a doddle really. An undercoat of Leadbelcher and I was practically there.

I also got to play a game with this Spearhead. At long last of suffering *ridiculous armour saves* and *over powered to hit and wound rolls* it was my turn to dish out the punishment! Never ever, ever have I rolled so many ones and twos. Eventually I managed to kill ten Clanrats and in return the Skaven wiped me out to a man. It is back to the box  for you guys, now where are my Kruleboyz?

*The moaning and whinging of a very disgruntled orc.*
